Free Programs

Gallery Talks and Tours
Join in an informative and eye-opening conversation about art, led by a Museum-trained docent, in a relaxed and informal setting. Just show up at the State Street entrance information desk.

Noon Focus Talks
Explore special exhibitions or one part of the collection, such as Antiquities, American, Asian, European, Contemporary art, Photography. 1pm Highlights Talks look at a variety of artworks from the Museum's permanent collection.
 

Kids and Families
All of the following family programs are free to Museum Members or with Museum admission. Visit our Kids and Families section for more information.

Free Family Days
Everyone is invited to these afternoon community celebrations at the Museum, featuring music and dance performances, art activities, refreshments, storytelling and other fun activities. Each Family Day has a theme that connects to an exhibition at the museum or a special celebration such as Dia de los Muertos or the Chinese New Year. Check the calendar for the dates of upcoming Family Days. Visit our Kids and Families section for more information.

Children's Gallery
A child-friendly space where families can explore, discover and learn about art together through hands-on activities that connect with art in the Museum's collection.
Open during Museum hours.

Family Gallery Guides and Treasure Hunts
Pick up one of the free gallery guides, gallery games and treasure hunts that makes your visit more fun for the entire family. Available at both Museum entrance information desks.

Group Tours
For a customized tour of the permanent collection or special exhibitions, call 884-6441.

Teens
Master Classes, Teens for Teens and Summer Mural Program all require an application review, interview and teacher recommendation. For more information, or to request an application, call 884-6432 or email phicks@sbma.net.

Master Classes
Month-long mini-internships that pair local artists with high school students to create their own art in response to a special exhibition or work from the Museum's permanent collection. Interview, teacher recommendation and portfolio review required. For more information, or to request an application, call 884-6432 or email phicks@sbma.net.

 

Teens for Teens
After school internship program that meets once a week from October through June. Interview and teacher recommendation required. For more information, or to request an application, call 884-6432 or email phicks@sbma.net.

 

Summer Mural Program
A six-week collaboration with 6 - 8 high school students and a master artist to produce an 8 by 24 foot mural to be mounted on the Museum's walls. Applications are distributed in the spring. Interview, teacher recommendation and portfolio review required.

Seniors
